Doyle Brunson’s Spooky Return to the WSOP Felt for Halloween

What a Halloween treat for WSOP attendees, to see Texas Dolly himself, the living legend of the game casually rock up at WSOP 58, the $1k Super Seniors’ Event to sit and politely greet his opponents as he picked up his first hand at a live game in over three years.

Doyle Brunson is 88 years young this year, and officially retired from professional poker back in 2018, marking his retirement with a final table, taking sixth in WSOP 23, the $10k buy-in No Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw event.

His first WSOP cash in five years and a final table to boot seemed a great spot to call it, but he has of course been much missed at the tables ever since.

For those keeping an ear to the ground this wasn’t totally out of the blue, since Doyle did hint in a Tweet back in the summer that he might be attending, and by the sound of it, planning to play more than one event this year.

Let’s cross our fingers that he’ll play the Main Event, in which case we’ll surely be seeing a lot more press coverage of this almost mythological poker hero, one of the few people to have won the WSOP Main Event twice. He may opt for some shorter duration events of course, as the Main is so notoriously gruelling if you go deep.

Brunson is famous for his calm and well-mannered demeanour at the poker tables, as well as for crushing souls at the felt of course! He is a wonderful ambassador for the game and it is truly a special Halloween surprise to have seen him pop out of retirement to sit at a WSOP event once again and we wish him the best of luck in any he should choose to play.
