WSOP Main Event attendees were in for a shock when Gandalf the White made a dramatic appearance at the Rio for day 1f!

Flanked by several powerful wizards including the spell-binding Daniel Cates (who recently crushed the $50k Players Championship with his Senzu Magic) and a curiously orcish cohort of footsoldiers, Gandalf strode into the poker room looking determined to vanquish evil.

Phil Hellmuth on the other hand was nowhere to be seen, perhaps a little daunted at the prospect of facing some real white magic from this powerful wizard!

As he sat down to play the WSOP Main somewhat deep into late registration, a few outspoken opponents did accuse Gandalf of showing up late, but as he wisely reminded them, A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.”

There were some strange shadows seen lurking outside the Rio that afternoon, and some muttering heard about sixteen bracelets and a “precious” seventeenth, but most people assumed this was just Gollum following Gandalf’s trail.

Gandalf remains in the event albeit as a short stack, sitting on 25,400 chips at 1k/2k after a gruelling day 2. We’re sure he’ll use all his powers to spin that up to a monster stack. We’re rooting for him to defeat the remaining 2,361 creatures battling it out at the WSOP Main Event here in Mordor... sorry, we mean Las Vegas!
