The inimitable Mr. Deeb has done it again, with a 1st place finish in WSOP #53, shipping $1.2 million and his fifth WSOP bracelet. He defeated a field of 212 top players to crush this event, eliminating all of his competitors amongst the final five standing. Deeb last won the event back in 2018.
In the thrill of victory Shaun was heard to predict that he would “pass Phil” for bracelets at least after “a decade or two” and this is no random brag, he stands a real chance of doing so.
There are very few players out there with the grind ethic of Shaun Deeb, who is regularly in contention for player of the year at the WSOP due to his incredibly high volume of play and sheer performance. In fact, he’s now standing in fourth place in the current POY standings for this year’s WSOP after this first place finish and another final table being amongst his 12 cashes in this year’s event so far.
If you want to see all the action, it’s available right now on Youtube. This really is worth a watch, as Deeb completely stomps the table, starting with a sick runout to bring him back from an underdog on the flop with Shauns’ AhAsQh3s vs. the AdAc7d4d of his opponent Maxx Coleman who covered him. Coleman spiked a flush draw on the Td2cJd flop, but Deeb saw the board run out 4c and then 5c to hit a straight on the river for a crucial life-saving pot.
We’re sure we won’t have seen the last of Deeb this WSOP, but this achievement of crushing a high-stakes PLO tournament twice at WSOP is a rare and special one. He shipped the trophy wearing his final table t-shirt which read “Trophy Husband” and we’re sure his other half would agree that she shipped the nuts with this one.
