We’re not far away from the start of The Festival Malta 2023, and many poker players have already made plans to visit the sun-soaked island to enjoy a fun-filled week of poker. However, if you’re still on the fence about making the trip or just want to know what the best events are, then you’re in the right place. We’re here to give you the lowdown on what you should be looking out for at The Festival Malta 2023 to make your trip the best ever.
The Location
It should go without saying that the location of this week-long festival of poker is absolutely stunning. Malta is a beautiful island with plenty of sun, sand, and surf, and the Portomaso Casino in St Julians is equally beautiful. Whether you’re taking a break from the action to catch some rays or glued to the tournament tables, you can be sure to have a fantastic time.
The Tournaments
Of course, if you’re planning a week-long poker trip, you’re going to want to know about the tournaments on offer! There are tournaments for every kind of poker player, whether you’re a high-roller NLHE specialist or a low-stakes mixed games player. You can check out the festival’s full schedule here, but let’s take a look at some of the stand-out events of the series.
Obviously, the Main Event is going to be a huge draw and will get a considerable number of runners. There are four flights with two re-entries allowed per flight, so expect that prize pool to be nice and big by the time we get to Day 2. With a €550 buy-in, we’re expecting 1st place money to be in the tens of thousands of Euros – not too shabby for a week’s work!
If the €550 buy-in is a little too rich for your blood, there are satellites running throughout the early part of the week, with buy-ins as little as €70.
The high-rollers amongst you should look out for the PLO and NLHE High Roller tournaments, played on back-to-back days on the 17th and 18th of May. These events have an €1100 buy-in and guarantees of €20,000 and €30,000, respectively, so you can expect a healthy first-place prize if you manage to take one of them down.
On the other end of the spectrum, we have plenty of small buy-in tournaments that mix up the classic tournament format. We have the €125 Win The Button tournament, the €125 NLHE bounty tournament, where €50 goes to each player’s bounty, and the €125 Texas Hold’em Turbo Thursday Midnight Madness – try saying that five times fast! These events promise plenty of action and are well worth a punt if you make the trip out here.
Player Of The Festival
As an extra incentive to play these great events, there is a Player of the Festival competition running throughout the week, where you can earn points based on how well you do in each event. First place wins a €1600 package to the next “The Festival” event, so it’s well worth grinding those last few tournaments and extending your stay if you’ve done well earlier in the week.
Cash Games
As well as a jam-packed tournament schedule, there will be cash games running around the clock for the duration of the festival. There promises to be a mix of NLHE, PLO and mixed game cash games at a variety of stake levels, so you can join in the fun no matter the size of your bankroll.
There will even be special cash game challenges taking place every night for the duration of the festival, where you can win a package to the next “The Festival” event worth €1600 if you’re the series’ big winner.
Summary
There are lots of reasons why The Festival Malta 2023 should be where you’re planning to be next week. It’s a week-long celebration of poker on one of the most beautiful islands in the world, with events for players of all bankrolls. Why don’t you come and join us for what is sure to be a fantastic week of poker.
