Hand Breakdown: Alan Keating, Martin Kabrhel, and Steve in Over $2M Pot!

This is one of the biggest hands that was played on Hustler Casino Live stream, and two of the most exciting poker personalities were involved, which makes it a dream hand for viewers and for the stream. In this article, we will break down the hand and try to identify any mistakes made, as well as areas for improvement. Let’s dive in!

The game is no-limit hold ’em with $500/$1000 blinds, and players are playing 400+ big blinds deep, which means that the face value of the hands decreases, while suited connectors and small pairs increase in value due to their better implied odds.

Preflop

The hand started with the UTG open from Brandon to $4,000. Keating called in the HJ with TdTc. Senor Tilt called in the BTN with 9h8s. Steve called in the SB with Jd9d, and Kabrhel called in the BB with Jc6c. The pot was $22,000.

It was a wide open from Brandon with Ts8s which is a bit too wide as he would be forced to fold to 3-bets if we doesnt want to lose EV, than we had just flat with TdTc from Keating, which is a big mistake as it is inviting other players with weaker hands to just call as they have good pot odds, and eventually outdraw him on the flop. Something like that did happen, as all the remaining players (except Peter) at the table called with weaker hands, but enough equity to put Keating’s hand at more risk than it should.

The Flop

The flop was deadly as the dealer turned up TsJhJs, giving Keating a flopped full house and trips to Kabrel and Steve, who were in a horrible spot. Steve led into four players with $1,000, and Keating raised it to $25,000. Steve called, Kabrhel raised to $69,000, Keating called, and Steve shoved for $784,500. After some thinking, Kabrhel called, and Keating said, “I think I have you both beat,” and called. The pot was $2,082,000.

The $1,000 lead from Steve was unnecessary, and his call against Keating’s raise was fine, but when Kabrhel joins the action and goes for another raise, Steve should just have two options; Call or fold, but he decided he had enough and shoved for 784 big blinds, which can’t be good in any universe as mutiway pots usually run significantly tigher than single raise pots, especially playing this deep.

I also think Kabrhel’s call is a mistake, as Keating’s action against early in the hand against four people in the pot indicated that he might have a good hand. As previously said, there isn’t much low equity bluffing 5-way, 784 big blinds deep in the hand. Kabrhel should just lay down his hand as one of the players is going to have a flush draw, and the other one can have Jx or better, and that is the best-case scenario for Kabrhel.

He could also already be drawing dead. Keating has an easy decision, and he is only losing against JTo, JTs, and JJ, but holding TdTc is giving him two great blockers eliminating half of the combos beating him, and his hand is never anything but a shove/call.

They decided to run it twice, and first runout goes Ad, 3h, giving the first half of the pot to Keating as his full house holds. The second runout goes 7h, 5s, which also goes Keating’s way, and he wins the pot of $2,082,000 for the pot of the night!

This time, Keating flatting pocket tens preflop turned into the best possible outcome, but there are often going to be less favorable flops where he will have to just check and fold his strong hand as he can’t continue on Q or J high board against four other players.

Lesson: Playing multiway, especially deep-stack poker, should be significantly tighter than playing 100 big blinds deep in a single raised pot. Kabrhel made similar mistakes in some previous hand breakdowns, and the same mistake continues to cost him millions of dollars.
