Cheery Pokerstars Pro Sam “TheSquid” Grafton took it home on Sunday in EPT Prague Event #1, the €10,200 No Limit Hold’em Bounty High Roller, which saw a solid 57 entrants buy in and the top eight finishers reach the money.
There was a trophy and €80,360 up for grabs for first place, and Grafton walked away with several €5,000 bounties along with the prize for top spot. Swede Niklas Astedt was the last of Sam’s four final table eliminations, exiting in second place for €58,130.
This two-day event saw a long, drawn-out bubble followed by a fast and furious hour of eliminations once the final eight were through to the money.
Grafton went on a hot run in the final end, shoving T♠9♠ into Teun Mulder’s A♣4♣ blind vs. blind to see a board run out a sweaty K♠7♠7♦ for the Dutchman, the turn rolled off a safe 4♥ but the river sealed Mulder’s fate as the shortest stack, sending him to the rail when the T♥ hit.
South Korean player Daewoong Song was down to around 4bbs when he was eliminated by Grafton, losing a flip with 3♣3♠ against The Squid’s J♥4♦.
Heads up was over almost before it began. On only the fourth hand of heads-up play, Grafton was dealt T♦T♠ on the button, and opened to 200k, a 2.5bb raise. Astedt quickly shoved all-in for a total of 1.4 million chips and Grafton of course snapped it. Astedt was forced to table a mere K♥7♠ and could only look on in dismay as the board ran out A♣A♦5♥ 4♦ 2♦ to seal the win for Sammy Squid.
