When Glowny scores in a live poker tournament, he likes to make it count. The Polish Online Qualifier has only one other cash in a live event on record, and that was made literally the day before the EPT Prague Main Event kicked off, when he finished 72nd in the Eureka €2,200 High Roller Event on March 9th, also held in the beautiful city of Prague in the Czech Republic.
This score was just a little bit larger, instead of winning €4,790 for 72nd, he took down the €5,300 EPT Main for 1st place, the trophy and a sweet €692,252!
Living the dream and proving that poker really is anyone’s game, Glowny bested a field of 1,190 entrants over six days of play to defeat Italian Andrea Coretellazzi heads-up and claim victory in this awesome event. He is also living proof of the “chip and a chair” motto, his stack having sunk as low as 4 big blinds on day 4.
With a strong rail including his partner watching from the sidelines, Glowny refused a chop, got short-stacked, returned to dominate, finally accepted an ICM chop 4-handed and then stormed ahead to the final win.
Play 4-handed after the ICM chop was naturally a fairly wild affair, including a heads-up with more than its fair share of open shoving seen, particularly from Coretellazzi who in the penultimate (but largely decisive) hand jammed A♥9♦ for around 30bbs (around 15 million at Level 36: 250k/500k/500k ante) and ran into Glowny’s Q♥Qc. The board ran out with no help for the Italian, a cold 5♥J♣5♠ J♠ T♥, leaving Coretellazzi driving on fumes.
The Italian jammed the very next hand for his last 4 million chips with a weak 8♣4♣ and ran into a bigger hand in suited clubs: K♣Q♣. When the board ran out 2♥7♠T♣ K♠ 4♠, the Italian was dead on the turn and Glowny was an EPT Main Event champion.
