It’s official! The World Series of Poker is back for its 54th year, to the delight of poker fans worldwide. After a successful year at Bally’s and Paris, the event will be back on the world-famous Las Vegas strip with one major change. Bally’s has finally rebranded to the Horseshoe Casino, which means that the WSOP will be officially taking place at the Horseshoe for the first time since 2004. So far, only 12 events have been confirmed, so let’s take a look at the highlights.
Gladiators of Poker
One of the new events on the schedule is the $300 Gladiators of Poker, scheduled to begin on June 7th, 2023. This is the lowest buy-in event in WSOP history with a huge guarantee of $3M, so we think this event will be one of the most popular of the series. A similar event, the Colossus, is at the end of the month, which makes it unlikely that there will be much overlap among recreational players. It will be interesting to see how many people make their way out to Vegas for this event and whether or not they’ll be able to meet their guarantee.
Ultra Stack
The other new event that’s been released is the Ultra Stack, which is scheduled to take place on July 11th, 2023. There isn’t much information released about this event yet, but there’s a chance that it’s similar to the equivalent online events that have run in the past. It’s likely to be an extension of the deep-stacked events from previous Series, so if you like a lot of play in your tournaments, then this event could be the one for you.
Main Event
Of course, no WSOP would be complete without the prestigious $10,000 Main Event. Players travel from all over the world to play in this event, hoping that they can add their names to the revered list of past winners. Last year’s Main Event was the second-most played in WSOP history, and many people are expecting the record to be broken in 2023. The event is scheduled to start on July 3rd, 2023, and it could be the biggest one yet!
Mystery Millions
After the tremendous success of last year’s event, the mystery bounty is back at the WSOP. In fact, many would say that 2022 was the year of the mystery bounty, as many different tournament series hosted their own versions of the event. Players love the chance of winning a huge payday without having to run deep in a tournament, and you can’t get much bigger than the $1,000,000 bounty on offer at this year’s event. Scheduled to start on May 31st, 2023, you can start your WSOP off with a bang if you manage to bag yourself one of the top prizes!
As well as these great events, there have been eight other events confirmed by the WSOP.
- June 16th – $1500 Monster Stack
- June 21st – $1000 Seniors Championship
- June 23rd – $1500 Millionaire Maker
- June 29th – $1000 Ladies Championship
- June 30th – $400 Colossus
- July 2nd – $1000 Mini Main Event
- July 7th – $777 Lucky 7s
- July 14th – $1500 The Closer
We can expect the WSOP to release more information about the schedule in the build-up to the series, as we’re still over six months away from the start of the event. Even so, the anticipation is already building amongst fans and players alike; who will win their first bracelet, who will win POY, and who will take down the Main Event? All will be revealed in due course in what’s likely to be the biggest World Series of Poker ever.
